Our Story

Ana and Douglas' story begins spring 2011 during prom season. Ana needed a date & Doug had a tux. Ana's younger sister Madison floated the idea around & Doug accepted. They rode shotgun in his family's limo, a last minute change after the original driver got a flat tire.

They began officially dating shortly after August 2nd, 2011 and spent the next year of high school hiking the lake, baking cookies, going to movies, and talking late night on the telephone. The pair mutually agreed to "break up", as it seemed the most mature for Ana leaving California to go to college in 2012 in Idaho.

Over the next 3 years, Ana and Doug grew as young adults in their college experience, whilst they shared their experience through daily phone calls just as they did in high school and quarterly road trips/flights. They tested the theory that "absence makes the heart grow fonder" during their long distance relationship, officially getting back together in 2017. Ana moved back to California in 2018, settling in her new job at Canary Marketing in the bay area near Douglas.

In 2019 they moved in together in their first tiny 500sqft apartment in Berkeley, California with their Basset Hound, Georgie and Siamese cat, Link. They quickly outgrew their space and moved to a larger apartment in Oakland in 2020, where they quarantined together for the COVID 19 pandemic, which tested their relationship and solidified their bond. On a daily walk around Oakland, they were greeted by a hungry and friendly stray cat, Zelda, who they took in and became their third pet. (But not before trying to find her original owners with no luck!) As the world opened up again after the pandemic, so too did their need to grow. Eager to be homeowners, they rented out their first full home together in Albany, California where they refined their home making and gardening skills.

On their 11th anniversary of their 1st "Annie-versary", the couple visited Bolinas, California. While watching a sunset on the ocean cliff and an awkward Doug nervously discussing math theories, he surprised a totally unsuspecting Ana with a question: "will you marry me?". Ana responded with a gasp and a quick hug. After a few moments of shock, she realized she needed to actually confirm his question, as if there was any real question! A happy couple (and a less-anxious Doug) enjoyed the rest of their evening to a beautiful sunset with a few treats and snacks!

On January 15th 2023, they moved into their a new (100 year old) home in Portland, Oregon with their dog, 2 cats, 9 tiny red Hawaiian shrimp, and tens of dozens of plants. On January 16th 2023, Ana felt a bit ill, so she took a pregnancy test and found out she was pregnant with their first child! August (named after their love month) was born a healthy boy on September 2nd, 2023 and has been making Ana and Doug happy parents (and fiances) to this day. August will be 11 months old on their wedding day, August 2nd, 2024, where they will celebrate their love with their closest friends and family, and maybe even August's first steps! The family hopes they will see you there!
